We spent 4 months in Japan in Hakone National Park. Everywhere I went seemed like hallowed ground to me; the gardens, the streets, the alleys, the temples, the temple gardens, the museums of clay works , the shops and especially the art shops of Japanese prints. I have done some wood cut prints with dyes and oil based inks when I was in school. I love the colours of the old prints from the 19th century. They influenced my figure paintings in the 1970's. In the 80's Tony and I built a large room onto our home after a 16th century Japanese house. These images were painted in Japan on watercolour paper with w/c paint.
